MONTGOMERY, TX – April 2009 – Just weeks after its formal debut – culminating in the opening of a 17,000-square-foot destination spa and signature fine dining restaurant helmed by famed Master Chef Albert Roux – La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa™ was honored with a prestigious Landmark Award at a gala reception on April 8 in Houston. The winning project in the hospitality category, the destination property represents a two-year, $130-million ground-up renovation and expansion of the former Lake Resort under the guidance of French Quarter Hospitality. Presented by the Houston Business Journal, the annual Landmark Awards have become one of the community’s most sought-after acknowledgements of thoughtful planning and development. Nearly 100 nominations were judged on their financial viability, environmental sensitivity and their economic and visual impact on the city.
Attributes of the redevelopment which were highlighted for their merits include:
- Reconfiguring and expanding guestrooms to create separate bedroom and living areas
- Adding state-of-the-art spa facilities
- Introducing internationally recognized dining options
- Adding six swimming and activity pools, including a Lay-Z River
- Reconstructing the property’s 18-hole golf course
- Completely overhauling the conference center, which was expanded to 70,000 square feet with the addition of a new 10,000-square-foot lakeside ballroom
- Commitment to donate funds on behalf of each guest who declines replacement of daily towels to a local charity
- Using the hotel’s water treatment plant to process the area’s wastewater and, following purification, release it back into Lake Conroe
